Lost for Words: Overcoming Aphasia and other Communication Barriers in Neurocognitive Disorders is a 1 hour class and part of the Dementia Symptoms Demystified: A Series for Social Work Professionals

Aphasia, the loss of language ability, poses unique challenges in care for individuals with major neurocognitive disorder. This training equips attendees with the tools to understand aphasia’s impact and how best to communicate with those affected. Through real-world examples and practice-based techniques, attendees will learn how to bridge communication gaps, reduce frustration, and foster meaningful connections.

It is being offered in conjunction with Adult Protective Services Workforce Innovations to Southern California APS region offices.

This is part 3 of Dementia Symptoms Demystified: A Series for Social Work Professionals, a focused training series designed to deepen your understanding of the most challenging major neurocognitive disorder symptoms. Across four sessions, this series examines the causes and types of key symptoms, including memory loss, psychosis, aphasia, and agitation. Each session provides actionable insights into treatment approaches, including medications, and equips attendees with practical behavioral strategies to improve care and communication. Tailored for social work professionals, this series offers the tools and knowledge needed to confidently address the complexities of dementia symptoms and enhance outcomes for those in your care.
